Paul Allen’s island for sale for $13.5 million

A private 292-acre island near Anacortes that comes with a dock, beaches, views and grass airstrip has come on the market for $13.5 million.

The owner is Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, but the island is spelled Allan Island. Pure coincidence; the island is named after a Navy hero. Allen bought Allan Island in 1992 and in 2005 listed it for sale for $25 million.

“A new survey of home listing prices ranks Spanaway second only to Spokane in Washington for low home prices…

Among that survey’s other findings:

•  Washington is among five states with the highest housing prices. The others are California, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
• Mercer Island has the ninth highest home prices in the country with the average four-bedroom home there listing for $1.143 million. The most expensive homes on average are found in Newport Beach, Calif. The average there is $2.537 million.”
