Seattle Makes the Top Healthiest, Fittest Cities in the US List

Seattle ranked # 8 on the list of the Top Healthiest, Fittest Cities in the U.S.

The American Fitness Index (AFI) report was released by the American College of Sports Medicine, which looked at preventive health behaviors, levels of chronic disease conditions, health care access and community resources and policies that support physical activity.

The top 10 healthiest cities, according to the 2011 AFI report:

1. Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn.
2. Washington, D.C.
3. Boston, Mass.
4. Portland, Ore.
5. Denver, Colo.
6. San Francisco, Calif.
7. Hartford, Conn.
8. Seattle, Wash.
9. Virginia Beach, Va.
10. Sacramento, Calif.

Seattle foreclosure rates fall while nation’s rise

Foreclosure filings rose from July to August nationwide, while falling in the Seattle area and Washington state, according to a new report.

Filings were up 7.2 percent nationally, but down 24 percent in King County and 12.6 percent in Washington, the foreclosure data firm RealtyTrac reported. Comparing August to August 2010, filings fell 32.7 percent nationwide, 51.4 percent in the county and 53.4 percent statewide.

Central Puget Sound area housing sales up from 2010

Encouraging news for the Puget Sound housing market emerged Tuesday with the release of new sales figures for August.

Pending sales for the four-county central Puget Sound area, King, Pierce, Snonohomish and Kitsap, were the highest they’ve been in August since 2006, said the Northwest Multiple Listing Service. And closed sales were up significantly in all four counties.
